BuilderCheck ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use the BuilderCheck mobile app and website (collectively, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account information: Name, email address, password, role (homeowner or contractor).
- Contractor information: Business name, license number, license state, insurance documents, business address, phone, photos.
- Inquiries and reviews: Messages you send to contractors, reviews you write.
- Anonymous story submissions: Voluntary stories you submit. Contractor names redacted by default unless backed by public record.
- Payment information: Processed by Stripe. We do not store card numbers on our servers.
Information Collected Automatically
- Device information (model, OS version, app version)
- Usage data (pages viewed, features used)
- IP address and approximate location (city/region only)
What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not access contacts, photos, or microphone unless you grant permission.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell your personal information. Ever.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and improve the Service
- Verify contractor credentials against state licensing boards and public records
- Process payments for verification passes
- Send transactional emails
- Moderate anonymous submissions before publication
- Comply with legal obligations
3. How We Share Information
- With contractors you contact: Your name, email, project details, and inquiry message are shared with the contractor you message.
- With service providers: Stripe (payments), Supabase (database), Cloudinary (images), Resend (email). Bound by contract to protect your data.
- For legal reasons: If required by law or to protect rights, property, or safety.
- Public profile data: Contractor business name, license number, public reviews, and verification status are visible publicly.
4. Anonymous Story Submissions
Stories submitted to The Facts are reviewed manually before publication. Contractor names are redacted by default unless documented in public record. Optional contact email is used only to verify details — never published.
5. Data Retention
We retain account info while your account is active. Anonymous reviews and inquiries are retained as part of the Service. Request account deletion in-app via Settings; we anonymize your reviews and inquiries within 24 hours.
6. Your Rights
- Access: Request a copy of your data.
- Correction: Update your profile in-app.
- Deletion: Use Settings → Delete Account, or email us.
- Opt-out: Emails include unsubscribe links. Transactional emails only by default.
7. Children's Privacy
BuilderCheck is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
8. Security
We use HTTPS/TLS, hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is 100% secure.
9. Changes to This Policy
Material changes will be communicated via the app or email.
